Neuroma (Nerve Entrapment)

A neuroma is a painful nerve compression occurring in the ball of the foot. Many people tell me it feels as if they are walking on a marble. Other symptoms include an aching pain in the ball of the foot when walking and occasional shooting pains into the the third and fourth toes. Numbness into the toes can also occur. It is aggravated by narrow shoes and usually feels better when the shoe is removed or wearing a tennis shoe. There are several different treatment options for a neuroma including metatarsal pads, orthotics, injections and surgical excision of the inflamed and enlarged portion of the nerve.
