The
Eddie Henderson - Greg Bandy Quartet
The Eddie Henderson
- Greg Bandy Quartet, under the guidance of the legendary trumpeter
Eddie Henderson and stellar drummer Greg Bandy, has as its current
supporting members: pianist and synthesist Roger Friedman and bassist
David Certain.  The group has drummer Bandy to thank for its
origins as it was Mr. Bandy, who after 25 years of living in New
York City, moved back to his hometown of Cleveland and formed the
nucleus of the group.   As the Greg Bandy Trio
the group not only performed in its own right, but also accompanied
touring artists that came through Cleveland and other Midwestern
cities. The group played with such notables as saxophonist
Gary Bartz, seminal singer Jimmy Scott, flautist Dave Valentin,
trumpeter Terrence Blanchard, saxophonist Mario Rivera and many
others including Eddie Henderson. In 2004, Greg moved back
to Harlem and once again became immersed in a busy performance schedule
in New York and throughout the world. Bassist David Certain
moved to San Francisco and arranged for the trio to accompany Dr.
Henderson at the Bach Society in Half Moon Bay. The audience
was witness to a magical blend of creative finesse and the Eddie
Henderson - Greg Bandy Quartet was born. The quartet's repertoire
includes standards in swing, Latin and funk/fusion styles, continuing
in the tradition of Art Blakey, Miles Davis, Herbie Hancock, Freddie
Hubbard and Lee Morgan. It is a veritable American music variety
show with breadth and depth and a "fire" that is rarely
found today. |
