Diabetic Foot Care

Patients with diabetes are prone to developing a condition called Diabetic neuropathy. In neuropathy, the sensory nerve function deteriorates in the body's extremities, causing a gradual loss of feeling in the hands, arms, legs, and feet. Patients may experience numbness, loss of feeling, "pins and needles" sensations or burning pain in the feet.
Because the ability to feel their feet is diminished, patients with diabetes must take extra care to prevent cuts, bruises, burns, or blisters that may heal poorly due to diabetes-related circulatory problems. Because of this, even minor foot conditions (e.g., calluses, blisters, ingrown toenails) must be treated promptly before they become infected. Diabetic infections can cause loss of limb or even life. Diabetic foot ulcers can go unnoticed and lead to severe complications. For this reason, most diabetic patients should be under the regular care of a Podiatrist for periodic foot examinations and regular foot care such as trimming of toenails and treatment of corns and calluses. Our doctors  have years of experience treating patients with diabetes. Please call our office today at 440-934-8444 or fill-out our Contact Form to discuss which treatment is best for you.
